Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)

—Night is drawing nigh—
For all that has been —Thanks!
For all that shall be—Yes! -Dag Hammarskjold
Dear Church,
I love this prayer.
Sometimes it is easy to climb into bed at night and let my mind hover over the day’s failures and disappointments. It is equally easy to wake up in the morning and, as I get dressed to prepare for what the day holds, to focus on the problems ahead and my worries about how they will be solved.
But God shows us another way.
We have behind us a great and wondrous story – so long and so ancient that we can never know the entirety of it – that tells of time after time, day after day, when God has transformed impossible situations, redeemed sorrow and pain, and poured out new and unimaginable love and joy.
There is so much reason to be thankful in this world, where God is present.
There is so much cause to hope, in this life of ours, where the God who loves us and delights in our joy is working all around us to bless us and gather us in to God’s own love and joy.
I hope you’ll pray this prayer with me this month, and as we look toward the future in our own lives and at CHUM, let’s say, “Yes!” to what God might have in store.
